Project 2010 Statement of Purpose

For me, the creative process is universal. Whether I am sketching out ideas for a new fine art composition on canvas, conceptualizing the layout for a graphic design/typography project, rendering perspectives for an original environmental space, or conceiving a new user interface for a website, an effective development of the imagination goes through a process I call the "Spective Creative Cycle."

All too often it seems an inspired individual is forced out of the universal creative experience into a limiting specialty where one is compartmentalized by label into solely: "A Graphic Designer," "A Web Designer," "A Module," etc. It is actually even worse than that; now it seems one must be even more specific as a professional: "I am a graphic designer for print," or "I am strictly a digital, multi-media artist." These contemporary limitations seem more in kind with the medieval hierarchy than what was finally surpassed by masters during the Renaissance some 500 years ago when artists actually were seen as universally creative and allowed to have their individual talents grow and nurture without the limitation of single minded specialization to the great benefit of society.

Limitless and eternal

I seek to cross the threshold of these oddly maintained modern boundaries, breaking down false constructs with my art, multi-media, audio video productions, environmental design, visual communication designs, and my writings on the Spective Creative Cycle. Each will play a role so that I can creatively investigate: expression, identification, evolution, solution, appreciation, and regeneration.

Polymath innovation and discovery

In my academic research and personal experience, polymaths throughout human history have broken down the molds and limits of the previous generation. Often times the establishment (what is known as popular contemporary culture, conservative culture, or the maintainers of such) is completely unaware or unprepared to make the next quantum leap into human discovery or progressive development of creative ideas. It takes the counterculture and youthful generation to challenge the boundaries and help humankind as a whole to continue the evolutionary process of consciousness.

My goal for the Spective Creative Cycle is not humble but rather very bold and in these times boldness has been remarkably deficient. I seek to be a vanguard in my creative production and help guide society to a new level of expression, communication, perspective and consciousness because I know through my thoughtful studies of art history, creative idea progression, and the imaginative human mind that the true DNA of civilization is an interactive double helix between culture and counterculture. It takes brave, deft, innovative, and tenacious individuals to change what the conservative establishment tries to block, namely "change" in any way, shape or form.

My broad understanding of the history of Western culture as well as the progressive qualities of counterculture prepares me to keenly express and innovate through visual communication. I also have the ability to relate and to teach the younger generation, life force of counterculture, with my creative ideas in a provocative and engaging manner. One of my ultimate goals is to become an educator of art and design and to share my creative experiences, instruct, and help guide the next generation to innovate artistically with a social application of the arts.

I am looking for a chance to exchange perspectives, innovations and discoveries with those that share my desire to break down the limitations and false boundaries for the greater creative good of civilization. I know there are those who are content with their comfortable, unchallenging routine found throughout society and politics, but I am here to help bring the new challenge, youthful vitality, and reinvigorate our civilization with my unique perspective and passion for creativity.
